• We do not know how much truth there is in the speculations about Manmadhan 2, but there it is all over the media about possible pairing up of Simbu and suchlike. 
• The latest in the series is that Anushka will be paired up opposite Simbu for Manmadhan 2.
•  It must be noted that it was Jyothika, who paired up with STR in Manmadhan. 
• While no details about this development is official yet, if this happens it would be Anushka's second film with Simbhu - the first being Vaanam.

• Earlier, it was rumored that TR has approached AR Rahman for tuning Manmadhan 2. There are no news on that front as yet and it's expected that an official announcement will be out soon.

• Now we hear that, KV Anand is also looking to release Maatraan in August.
• The same scenario arose last year when Suriya’s 7aam Arivu and Vijay’s Velayudham released on the same day. In the end, 7aam Arivu scored more at the box office, when compared to the Vijay starrer.
• Amidst this there are also chances of Kamal’s much awaited Vishwaroopam releasing around the same time. Looks like it is going to be one hell of a clash…

•  Rajinikanth starrer Endhiran has made it to the all time highest grossers list of India. Endhiran has taken the second spot in the list with a massive Rs 200 crores at the box office. 
• Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots leads the list with Rs 202 crores.
• Also on the list are Salman Khan’s Bodyguard and Dabangg, Rowdy Rathore and SRK’s Ra.One. Rowdy Rathore which has been directed by Prabhudeva has already collected Rs 128 crores and is only in its fourth week.

• The court has passed an interim ban on the makers of Thuppakki from releasing their film until July 16th.
•  The order was passed after a petition was filed by Ravi Devan, the director of another upcoming film Kalla Thuppakki. Ravi had registered the title in 2009, even before AR Murugadoss did. 
• In his petition, Ravi said that there are possibilities of audience getting confused with the two films, for both have similar titles.
• Though the court hasn’t made a judgment on the case, they have ordered S Thanu, the producer of Thuppakki, to come out with a clarification from their side. Till then, Thuppakki cannot be used as a title for their film.

• Jiiva has been working very hard on his character and the makers have expended a fortune on his superhero costume which according to insiders is absolutely spectacular.

• Rajini's film Kochadaiyaan will definitely not be hitting the screen this Diwali it appears. The reason for this is twofold.
• First of all, the makers want to make sure that Rajini's comeback film after nearly two years is absolutely perfect since the expectations will be higher than ever before after Enthiran. 
• Secondly, Shah Rukh Khan's film with Katrina Kaif under Yash Chopra's banner will be releasing for this Diwali about which Yash Chopra made an announcement long ago. 
• Rajini and SRK are good buddies and Rajini even gave a guest appearance for Ra - One so they have an unspoken gentleman's agreement not to compete with each other at the box office. Hence Kochadaiyaan's release date has been postponed. 
• But his Tamil fans are still hoping that perhaps the Tamil version at least will be released for Diwali.

This video, which the film’s makers call a ‘stunner’, will be released on June 30th.  The film is expected to hit the screens in August. Kamal Haasan has left for Las Angeles for the post production work of the film. He is planning to introduce 11.1 surround sound in India through this film.  We also hear that he is using latest technologies in all other departments too.

• Finally the confusions seem to surround Billa 2's release will be put to rest as it seems. A press release, from the office of producer Sunir Kheterpal, seeks to end the confusion regarding the movie's release date. July 13 has been confirmed as the release date in the official announcement which will be preceded by a first look function, in Chennai on July 1st and 2nd. A new trailer will also be released on the same day.

• The movie is being released all over the world in more than 1200 theatres. Other than the pan India and regional markets, Billa will also be released in international markets. For instance, in France, the movie will be released in about 10 theatres with French Sub-titles. A new song is added in the film that is not in the sound track, a sixth song a belly dance sequence shot in Georgia.

The much awaited Billa 2 has been certified ‘A’ by the censor board today. The board has also requested for a few minor cuts and we hear the makers have accepted to it.

Though reliable sources have revealed that the film will be released on 29^th June, an official announcement is expected earliest by tomorrow.

Saguni’s release has been confirmed for June 22 and it was earlier speculated that both the films will clash at the BO on Vijay’s birthday which falls on the same day. Saguni is a political satire starring Karthi in the lead and Billa 2, is the prequel to Billa, which traces the origin of Billa, the don starring Ajith. Saguni has been given clean U by the censors.

Vikram is back after a 60 days shoot in London for AL Vijay’s Thandavam, alongside Amy Jackson, Anushka, Santhanam and Laksmi Rai. He will now start shooting for his next big thing with director Shankar. The film titled Therdhal is expected to be a political drama.

Samantha, who has broken up with Mani Ratnam has given bulk dates to Shankar. The film will go on floor from tomorrow. AR Rahman will be doing the music for the film and PC Sreeram will handle the camera.

• An audio teaser was also released on the birthday of Ilayaraja. Gautham has also been bragging about the musician since he started working with him. We also hear that the audio launch of the film might happen on the first week of July.

The director wants Kareena Kapoor to dance for a song in the film. If reports are to be believed, the glamour queen has shown interest in the film but has insisted that she wants to listen to the entire song before she says ‘Yes’. It’s heard that SJ Surya is not leaving any stone unturned and is busy composing a catchy song. It has to be noted that Kareena has earlier acted in SJ Surya’s direction in the Hindi version of Khushi.

• Pooja Kumar, the Indian born Hollywood actress, who has also done the female lead in Kamal’s Vishwaroopam recently spoke about the difference between Hollywood films and Vishwaroopam. 
• “There is not much of a difference. People here think Hollywood is much more advanced. That’s not entirely true. Take Vishwaroopam, it is as technologically strong as any Hollywood films.
•  In fact Kamal ji did the entire post production work of the film in a studio in Hollywood”
• Pooja Kumar though works in Hollywood, made her debut in Tamil Film Kadhal Rojave. The actress, apart from Vishwaroopam, is now awaiting the release of her two English projects, Man on a Ledge and Anything for You.

Aishwarya Rai rules out acting

Aishwarya Rai and her hubby Abhishek Bachchan made an appearance recently at a party hosted by Keith Vaz, Britain’s MP of Indian origin at the Radisson Edwardian Heathrow Hotel. During the party the former Miss World said that she has no immediate plans of returning to acting as she is enjoying being a mother. She also said that being a mother is her top priority and that it is bliss.

When asked Abhishek if he shares any of her duties, he said that he is already feeling guilty for not able to spend much time with his daughter and wife.

FERRARI KI SAWAARI MOVIE REVIEW

‘Ferrari ki Sawaari’ marks the return of Vidhu Vinod Chopra to production after 3 Idiots. Raju Hirani is also involved with this movie as a dialogue writer and creative producer, while Rajesh Mapuskar is the director. Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani and young Ritvik Sahore complete the cast. Music has been provided by Pritam while there is Vidya Balan in a special item ‘lavani’ song.

The movie traces the lives of the Deboo family comprising young Kayo (Ritvik), his father Rusy (Sharman Joshi) and his grandfather (Boman Irani). Kayo is a cricketing prodigy while his grandfather is skeptical about the young kid’s cricket interest due to his own failed past as a promising cricketer ruined by his close friend (played by Paresh Rawal). Rusy, a ‘Mr. Do-Gooder’, wishes to make his son a cricketer by any possible means despite his meager savings from his government job. An opportunity to send his son for coaching to a prestigious club at the home of cricket (Lords, London) comes up and Rusy goes through one helluva rollercoaster along with the grandfather who also joins in the cause once he is convinced of the young kid’s caliber.

As the title suggests, a Ferrari also plays a prominent role in the scheme of things. One must say that the red Ferrari is indeed jaw dropping and to add to its appeal, it belongs to ‘Little Master’ Sachin Tendulkar. There are a set of people who are after the Ferrari for various reasons and these events surrounding the Ferrari are half-funny and take the focus away from the aforementioned main plot which is truly endearing. There is also a lot of Sachin worshipping in the movie which is justified because the movie is set in Mumbai. The movie in fact is dedicated to Sachin.

The movie has a truly special opening few minutes when we are introduced to the special bonding between Rusy and Kayo. These sequences will bring a light tear to the eye. Boman Irani also adds to the emotional appeal of the movie with a typically fantastic performance in a different makeover. Sharman Joshi and the kid are very earnest and their bonding is what makes the movie tick. Generally, filmy kids act over smart while here the young kid is natural and truly likeable. His face and innocent smile will win you over. Sharman has caliber and he proves it yet again in the emotional scenes. The father-son bonding has shades of the climax portions of ‘Forrest Gump’ and ‘Life is Beautiful’. Generally also, movies based on the sacrifices made by a father, always strike a right chord. In that sense, ‘Ferrari’ is a timely release for ‘Father’s Day’.

There is some needless melodrama and mush in the climax which could have been toned down and it is also tough to digest the fact that an entire community back in Mumbai is watching a live feed of an under-14 match happening in London. Needless to say in these scenes, Kayo is worshipped on the lines of Sachin himself.

Hit machine Pritam has given nice feel-good songs which are on the mark. The VFX work for the title song is authentic. Most of the songs just go with the flow of the movie as montages. The BGM score also adds to the mushy, feel good appeal of the movie. The item number featuring Vidya is a good distraction.

Ultimately it is the honest intention of the movie and the endearing, earnest nature of the grandfather – father – son bonding that make the movie work to a large extent. The scenes featuring the Ferrari are illogical and are just supposed to provide some fun. Also, the climax could have been made more believable even though it is an underdog movie which is supposed to end in triumph.


Verdict: A feel-good ‘underdog’ movie with its share of flaws.

• Not literally though. STR and Hansika shot a scene for Vaalu at the Kamala Theater yesterday.
•  As per the scene, STR and Hansika come to watch the first day first show of Ajith’s Billa 2, without the knowledge of their friends Santhanam and VTV Ganesh. 
• For this reason, huge cutouts and posters of Ajith were put up at the theater to create the ambiance.
• Vaalu is being directed by debutante Vijay Chander. 
• The shoot for the film will be wrapped up with the completion of its single schedule and will most probably be released for Diwali.

Ajith-Vishnuvardhan's Mumbai schedule stalled

• Vishnuvardhan’s untitled project starring Ajith is 25% complete. They were shooting in Mumbai with a steady pace until the monsoon played spoilsport. 
• The team will be travelling to Bangalore today for their next schedule and return to Mumbai soon after the monsoon is over, to can the remaining sequences.
• The Bangalore shoot will involve Ajith, Nayanthara, Atul Kulkarni and Mahesh Manjrekar. The film, which also stars Arya and Taapsee, is expected to hit the screens this Diwali. PS Vinod is wielding the camera and Sreekar Prasad is editing the film.

• Actor Vijay’s much awaited film, Thuppakki is progressing at a brilliant pace. The first look teaser of the film is expected to be released 10 days after the birthday of Vijay, which falls on June 22^nd. The director of the film AR Murugadoss, in his micro blogging page announced, “New releases and Vijay sir's b’day make June 22 big. Thuppakki teaser will come after 10 days. Pls bear with us.” 

• The film stars Vijay and Kajal Agarwal in leading roles and Vidyut Jamwal, Jayaram and Sathyan in supporting roles. Santosh Sivan, instead of the regular 35 mm camera is using the latest ARRI digital technology for this film. Sreekar Prasad is editing Thuppakki and Harris is composing music for it

'Power Star' - Santhanam project, a remake of yesteryear superhit

• Recently Santhanam announced interesting news that he will be joining hands with ‘Power Star’ Srinivasan. Now the details of the film too have been revealed.
• The film titled ‘Kanna Ladoo Thinna Aasaiya’ is expected to be a remake of K Bhagyaraj’s 1980s super hit ‘Indru Poi Naalai Vaa’.
• KS Manikandan will direct the film and Thaman will do the music for it. Balasubramaniem, who shot Oru Kal Oru Kannadi, will crank the camera. The producers are planning to start the shoot by the month of July.
